Dr. Joseph Poveromo is a well known expert in the field of iron making and raw materials. Over his 35-year career, he has significantly improved blast furnace operations around the world with his deep understanding of all metallurgical processes including raw material chemistry and quality.
Joe fully understands blast furnace design, charging methods and the complex relationship between iron ore, coke, coal, and other fuel additives within the furnace. He has personally developed products for mining companies such as sintering ores, blast furnace pellets, and direct reduction pellets.
Dr. Poveromo has authored chapters in some of the world’s most highly respected steel manuals, such as the Making, Shaping and Treating of Steel, 11th Edition. Several major iron and steel societies have honored Dr. Poveromo for his contributions and service to the industry. Among them, he was recognized as a Distinguished Member of the Iron & Steel Society and was a Keynote Speaker at the International Congress on Science and Technology of Ironmaking,1994.
Dr. Poveromo holds a BS degree in Chemical Engineering from Renssalaer Polytechnic Institute and a Master’s and Ph.D. in Process Metallurgy from the State University of New York at Buffalo. A significant portion of his career was spent with Bethlehem Steel and later on with Quebec Cartier Mining. He and his wife now reside in Bethlehem, PA.
